Sunday morning dog walkers must have wondered why our three Councillors; Malcolm Wallace, Suzanne White and Danny Lee were paddling in the upper River Meon in Droxford. The answer is as follows..
The ‘Great UK WaterBlitz’ provides an important snapshot of the health of our rivers across the country from data collected by volunteers. Your three councillors took to the water at the River Meon in Droxford to measure the water quality. Cllr Danny says: “Citizen science projects like this really empower people to take action by contributing to valuable research but it alsohelps scientists to collect data on a large scale.” Cllr Suzanne adds: “This testing allowed us to see first-hand the current quality of the river water in Droxford.
Worryingly, our results confirmed that the river is in poor chemical health. Although results can vary depending on the conditions, it’s clear that the impacts demand more regular monitoring to gain a full picture of the health of our River Meon. ”The ‘Great UK WaterBlitz’ will be running again in September.
