The M3 Jn9 debate – Having a say

Following a presentation about the plan for the M3 / J9 changes by Chris Gilham at our March Member’s meeting it became apparent that we needed to ensure the public are aware that applications to be an ‘interested party’ via the National Infrastructure Planning website needed to be completed before 2359hr. Monday 13th. March, we set up a Stand at the Buttercoss in Winchester city centre.

It was very noticeable that we did not have to approach people, passers by saw what it was about and showed a great interest with many using our QR code to get a link to the relevant National Highways page.

£200m M3 Junction9

Here are some comments made by the public..

  • Waste of money
  • Is it really that bad how it is?
  • Yet another HS2, will it stop half way and leave a mess for years?
  • (from a visually impaired person) We need our pavements sorted out
  • It’s not a priority when the rest of our roads need sorting out
  • More attention should be paid to cycle paths and their safety
  • Another disturbance of nature and wildlife
  • The Government want us to use our cars less ???
  • £200m being spent on this and bus services reduced, no incentive to use public transport
