Have you been on the Meon Valley Community Bus?

Cllr. Suzanne writes..

I took my first trip on the bus recently on the regular Wednesday route to Petersfield. What an enjoyable, stress-free journey with our very helpful volunteer driver, Tony! Picking up some regular bus users at the various bus stops along the way, there was a sociable, friendly atmosphere and lots of lively chat. Several residents, of all different ages, mentioned how vital this bus service is to them as they don’t have cars and rely on the regular service for shopping and getting around. One person was using the bus as a convenient way to get to the train to London, rather than having to pay for parking at Petersfield Station.
Wednesday is market day in Petersfield, so it was worth spending the two hours there with plenty of time for a coffee and shopping. Tony, our driver, explained how he tries to help bus users with whatever is needed; on the way back, he made a short detour to drop someone with a lot of shopping at their front door.

As well as Petersfield, the community bus runs a regular timetable of routes, currently to Fareham, Hedge End, Waterlooville and Winchester. There are various pick-up points through the Meon Valley, including Soberton, Droxford, Warnford and Meonstoke. It is £6 return and bus passes are accepted.
Phil Bergin, a regular user of the bus, explained why it can often be a more relaxing way to go shopping. She said, “I really enjoy taking the community bus to Winchester. There’s no parking to worry about and I can relax and enjoy the amazing scenery on the way or chat to the other passengers, instead of stressing over traffic. We usually arrive before 10 and depart at 12 so there’s at least two hours in the city, which I find is plenty of time for browsing the interesting array of independent shops in the compact shopping centre or visiting the library cum art gallery in Jewry Street.”

The Meon Valley Community Bus NEEDS YOU! If you live in the Meon Valley, there are several ways you could help the bus:
 Use the bus on one of the regular routes for
shopping trips
 Consider hiring the bus for your next group
trip or family event
 Find out more about becoming a volunteer
bus driver
