At a follow-up meeting to the recent Climate Café event, a group of Soberton and Newtown residents formed a new group. Climate Action for Newtown and Soberton (C.A.N.S), was born, with the main aim of reducing the carbon footprint of the parish.
Looking at all the ideas suggested at the Climate Café, it was decided to form several subgroups to get started on some community projects. An Energy subgroup will be looking into the possibility of getting a thermal imaging camera to hire to locals to help them identify ways to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Some of the group will also attend some training to learn how to carry out feasibility studies for community energy projects in the village. A Waste Prevention group will start by helping local event organisers minimise and manage waste. Finally, a Biodiversity group will extend the work already started in the village of improving the diversity of wildflowers on the roadside verges. It will be interesting to see over the coming months how the projects develop.
