Visiting the Soberton Down wilding Project

After an enjoyable, more informal meeting in July when we met for a walk at the Winnal Nature Reserve in Winchester followed by a meeting afterwards, it was decided that this month we would follow suit and visit the Wilding Project at Soberton Down.

The beautiful hillside which features grasses and meadowland commands a wonderful view down to Soberton Village and the hills beyond. We were most thankful to Roy, Carol, Hugh and Nigel, all volunteers from the ‘Sobernewts’ (Soberton and Newtown) Team who gave us a guided tour, informing us of the plant species and the wildlife it encourages.

Afterwards we wandered down to the White Lion in Soberton for some welcoming and well deserved hospitality.

All in all, the past two outside activities have shown us the wonderful work being done by volunteers to maintain and improve our countryside and towns.

Whether a Green Party Member, supporter or otherwise please look out for any further outside pursuits and join us, you’d be most welcome.
