First Cycle Mass Ride - Recommended by Winchester Greens

18 April 2018

CycleWin, the new local cycle campaigning group invites everyone with a bicycle to join them on the first mass ride through Winchester. There will be pick-up points around the city to bring riders to the city centre building a 'bike train' for a processional lap or two on the central one-way system, before finishing at Abbey Gardens for a short celebratory gathering. Rides start at 10:00 and we anticipate the event finishing at around 12:00.

We share their aim to get more people cycling, more often. As part of newly-launched Cycle Winchester, we celebrate the joy of cycling: a convenient, healthy and inexpensive way to get around Winchester, which reduces congestion, pollution and makes Winchester a better place to live, work and visit. The ride will help create a vision of a better Winchester, where a critical mass of cyclists makes cycling safer and more enjoyable. Cycle Winchester will also tackle the issues that deter people from cycling, such as: lack of protected cycling routes, lack of bike parking, road layouts that don’t cater well for cyclists, shortage of training schemes to give people the skills and confidence to cycle safely.

Everyone who can ride a bike for 2-3 miles can join. No other special equipment is required other then a roadworthy bike. You don't need to dress in Lycra! If you can't cycle feel free to join to watch us or come to the finishing event.
